An hour with someone who has actually lived it.

Not therapy. Not advice from someone who has read about it. One hour with a mum who has been where you are, where you can finally say the things out loud.

You have told the story so many times now. To the GP. To the crisis team. To the person on the phone who had clearly never met anyone like your child. And every time, you have had to flatten it into something manageable, leave out the worst bits, and stay calm while you did it.

You have not actually said it. Not the real version.

Not the bit where you love her and some days you cannot stand being near her. Not the bit where you have imagined your own life if this had never happened. Not the guilt that comes two seconds after every one of those thoughts.

You cannot say that to your mum. You cannot say it to your partner, who is barely holding on either. You definitely cannot say it to a professional who is already looking at you like you might be part of the problem.

So you carry it. And it gets heavier.

What this is

An hour, just you and me, where none of that has to be tidied up.

I am not going to be shocked. I have thought every one of those things about my own daughter, on the bathroom floor, at three in the morning. There is nothing you can tell me that will make me think less of you as a mum, because I have been the mum thinking it.

We talk about what is actually happening. I ask the questions nobody else asks. And somewhere in that hour, the thing that has felt like an unsolvable mess usually turns out to have a shape, and a place to push.

You leave with one or two things to try this week. Not a programme. Not homework. One or two things.

And then you get it in writing

A day or two later I send you a written note. What you told me, what we untangled, and the things to try.

This matters more than it sounds. You will come off the call feeling lighter and you will have forgotten most of it by teatime, because that is what exhaustion does. The note is the bit you keep. It is also something you can show a partner who does not quite get it, which turns out to be worth something on its own.

What it is not

I would rather be straight with you now than have you find out halfway through.

This is not therapy, and I am not a therapist or a counsellor. I have training in DBT skills, NLP and mental health awareness, but what I mainly have is years of living this.

I will not diagnose anything. I will not advise you about medication. I will not tell you what your daughter's care team should be doing, because I do not know their case.

And I am not a crisis service. If you or someone you love is in danger right now, please call 999, or NHS 111 and press 2, or Samaritans on 116 123. Do not wait for a session with me.

What mums say about time with Sami

I booked a ½ hour coffee chat with Sami because I felt completely overwhelmed and didn’t really know where to start. It was such a relief to talk to someone who genuinely understood what I was going through. Sami listened without judgement, helped me untangle what was going on in my head and gave me a couple of really practical things to think about. Half an hour went so quickly, but I came away feeling lighter and much less alone. I’m so glad I reached out.

Joanne, Somerset (½ Hour Coffee Chat)

I booked a 1:1 hour with Sami because I knew I needed more than a quick chat. Having that dedicated time to talk everything through properly was exactly what I needed. Sami asked questions that made me look at things differently and helped me separate what I could control from what I couldn’t. There was no judgement and no telling me what I ‘should’ be doing. I felt heard, understood and, most importantly, calmer by the end of the session. I’ve already booked another one.

Claire, West Yorkshire (1:1 Hour)

I started with a ½ hour coffee chat with Sami and very quickly realised I wanted to explore things further, so I booked a 1:1 as well. I’ve now had several sessions and honestly, they’ve become something I really value. Sami understands the reality of being a mum supporting a young adult through difficult times, but she also reminds you that you matter too. Sometimes I need to offload, sometimes I need perspective and sometimes I need someone to gently challenge the way I’m thinking. Sami gives me all of that without ever making me feel judged. I’ve already booked more sessions because I know how much difference they make.

Katie, Jersey (Coffee Chat + 1:1)

Who I am

I am Sami. I am a mum in East Yorkshire, and I spent years supporting my daughter through emotional dysregulation, hospital admissions, care plans, waiting lists, and the particular loneliness of being the one everybody assumes is coping.

I built Chaos to Calm out of that. Not because it is finished, but because I learned things the hard way that nobody should have to learn the hard way twice.

The questions I get asked

Do I have to have it all worked out before I book?

No. Most mums arrive not knowing where to start. That is completely normal and it is usually where the useful stuff is.

What if I cry the whole way through?

Then you cry the whole way through. It would not be the first time and it will not be the last. You will not have wasted the hour.

I am already in The Harbour. Do I get a discount?

No, and I want to be honest about why. The Harbour gives you the room, the community and everything inside it, every month, for £19. This is my actual time, one to one, and it is the same price for everyone. I would rather keep The Harbour genuinely good value than start discounting my hours.

Is it really private?

Yes. What you say stays with me. The only limit is the usual one: if I believe someone is at serious risk of harm I may have to pass that on, and I would tell you I was doing it.

What if I book and then cannot face it?

Move it or cancel up to 48 hours before and you get your money back or another time. After that I cannot refund, but message me anyway. I know what this life is like.

You have spent a long time being the steady one.

Come and have an hour where you are not.
